October 12, 2026 - When co-ops in Alabama and Georgia needed help restoring power after Hurricane Isaias, South Carolina's electric cooperatives answered the call.
Ten S.C. co-ops sent mutual aid workers west over the weekend. Convoys of construction crews, service crews, right-of-way crews and specialized equipment began rolling out even before Isaias made landfall Friday night as a Category 2 hurricane.
The storm knocked out the power for some 450,000 people along the Gulf Coast.
Among the crews sending help: Aiken Electric, Berkeley Electric (pictured), Black River Electric, Edisto Electric, Horry Electric, Lynches River Electric, Mid-Carolina Electric, Palmetto Electric, Santee Electric and York Electric cooperatives.
The co-ops receiving crews included Baldwin, Clarke-Washington, Covington, Pioneer, Southern Pine and Wiregrass electric cooperatives in Alabama as well as Amicalola EMC in Georgia.
"We're proud of these guys for stepping up to help our cooperative neighbors when they need it most!" Mid-Carolina Electric posted on Facebook.
