State Senate
The General Assembly crafts South Carolina state laws. South Carolina voters elect members of the General Assembly to represent their districts. The General Assembly consists of two houses. The lower house is the South Carolina House of Representatives. The upper house is the State Senate. Altogether, the General Assembly consists of 170 members. There are 124 members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, who are elected every two years, and the South Carolina Senate has 46 members, elected every four years concurrent to the Presidential election. The legislature convenes at the South Carolina State House in Columbia.
