The electric cooperatives of South Carolina are doing it again in 2009. We want everyone to"Do the Light Switch."
"Do the Light Switch" is the name of the South Carolina electric cooperatives joint effort to distribute 7 million compact fluorescent lights to residential members over the next 10 years. The program's name was developed with input from each cooperative in the state.
In the first year, each residential co-op member received by mail a kit containing two compact fluorescent light bulbs. The distribution began in April and continued through July. Each kit contained valuable information on CFLs, and the container can be used as a coin bank for members to 'bank' the savings they'll realize by switching to more efficient lighting.
In 2009, the cooperatives are once again sending bulbs to our members. This year's program is expected to begin in late February and will continue through April. Each co-op served household in the state should receive one 75-watt equivalent CFL in the mail.
