2017 Washington Youth Tour Co-op Employee Application
If you're an electric cooperative employee in South Carolina, you're eligible to apply to be a chaperone on the 2017 Washington Youth Tour.
June 10-15, 2017
The Youth Tour is an all-expenses paid trip to our nation’s capital with 1,500 high school juniors from across the country.
• meet South Carolina lawmakers
• eat at cool restaurants
• visit our capital’s monuments
• tour Washington, D.C.
• socialize with students from S.C. and around the country
The Youth Tour:
• Rewards students for academic achievement and community leadership
• Educates students about the role of electric co-ops in the national economy
• Fosters students' appreciation for the democratic form of government
• Exposes students to the sights and sounds of our nation's heritage
• Builds students' leadership skills so that they may make a difference in their communities.
To apply to be a chaperone, you must be a current electric cooperative employee. If you are selected, The South Carolina Electric Cooperatives will pay for your transportation, hotel room, exhibit admissions, and three meals per day for the week-long trip.
Deadline for applications is Friday, February 3, 2017
Questions? Call Van O'Cain at (803) 739-3048 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Before submitting your application, please discuss the trip with your supervisor to obtain approval for your participation.
This is a working trip, not a vacation. Each chaperone is expected to participate in every aspect of the tour and will have daily assignments and responsibilities for students.
Chaperones will meet at Statewide in Columbia on Thursday, May 18, 2017, to go over the schedule and to discuss chaperone responsibilities. It is critical that chaperones attend this meeting.
There will be a Youth Tour orientation for students on Saturday, May 20, 2017. It is important that chaperones attend that, as well.
Youth Tour expenses for chaperones will be covered by Youth Tour funds, not by your co-op. Please keep track of any mileage you have (including coming to Columbia for the chaperone meeting and orientation, driving to the airport, etc.) and save receipts for any expenses you may have so that you may be reimbursed. While on the Youth Tour, the only money you will need is for any personal items you would like to buy. Hotel room, meals, entertainment, transportation, etc. are all paid in advance.
Selected chaperones will be notified by Monday, Feb. 13, 2017.
